Background
With 4 decades of experience in the semiconductor and wafer reclamation industries, Acromass makes extremely high-technology devices. Mass spectrometer is their newly focused product category and CRE8 was assigned to help with the mission to design and engineer the smallest mass spectrometer in the world, which can analyze both macromolecules (e.g. large proteins) and small molecules, enabling a more versatile usage in various fields: medical, pharmaceutical, and food security.
Challenges
In order to meet the requirements for hospitals and research centers, the mass spectrometer needs to be designed with a clean, professional look and extreme precision. CRE8’s designers and engineers had to combine their knowledge of physics, electronics, and material science to make this product happen, whilst fitting all the components in its very limited inner space.
Solutions
USER-FRIENDLY OPERATION
The detector and interface are designed to be user-friendly for operation; the form factor is firm, yet is the smallest in the world; the colors and materials selected infuse the product with a more powerful character; and the shape reduces its heat accumulation problems.
BEST AIRFLOW IN LIMITED SPACE
CRE8’s engineers worked on the placement of PCBs, components, and wiring, to simplify the assembly process and make everything fit in the confined inner space. After multiple simulations, the best airflow solution was devised to overcome the thermal problems; in order to stabilize the laser modules from being affected by the vacuum bump’s vibration, a very firm base with weight balance was created.
