BACKGROUND

As a leading provider of advanced networking and computing equipment, Lanner ships a wide range of hardware products and related accessories worldwide. With customers placing greater importance on environmentally responsible packaging, Lanner partnered with CRE8 to rethink the packaging for one of its server products. The goal was to maintain effective product protection while improving packing efficiency and creating a more intuitive user experience.

CHALLENGES

A server and its accessories vary greatly in size, weight, and shape. The packaging needed to secure every component during transportation while remaining practical for packing and unpacking. Our challenge was to create a flexible and systematic solution that could support future server packaging if the initial design proved successful.

A SCALABLE PAPER-BASED SYSTEM

Our designers developed a coordinated packaging system made primarily from corrugated paper. Precisely folded structures secure the server, while dedicated compartments organize rails, cables, and smaller accessories. Step-by-step instructions are printed directly on the packaging, guiding users through the correct opening sequence. The modular design also establishes a flexible framework that Lanner can evaluate and potentially extend across future product lines.

BEFORE AND AFTER

The original packaging effectively protected the server and rails with fitted EPE foam inserts, while smaller accessories were individually packed and placed together in a separate box. We replaced much of the EPE foam structure with an integrated paper-based solution, reducing the reliance on plastic-based protective materials while providing a clearer and more organized arrangement for the server and its accessories.
