Product Overview

KFA specializes in advanced, flexible level measurement solutions. The KFA6 is a remote level monitoring device with radar technology, featuring an embedded cellular modem, GNSS functionality, and powered by standard AA batteries. It measures liquid levels in small storage tanks or bulk solid silos, transmitting data to any third-party IoT platform.

Engineering Approach

Following the KFA philosophy, CRE8 engineers focused on simplicity, functionality, and efficiency, aiming to build the KFA6 with reliability in mind—install once and work seamlessly out of sight. There are no unnecessary features; every component serves a technical purpose. The team leveraged cost-effective solutions by prioritizing standardized, readily available components and materials, ensuring streamlined production and consistent quality.

Material Selection & Technical Precision

The design incorporates HDPE for its chemical resistance, versatility, and excellent dielectric properties, making it ideal for the radar sensor. Through close collaboration with mold makers and injection partners, along with multiple rounds of testing and iteration, the team achieved unique technical details — notably the precision of the threads and the smooth, tactile feedback when operating the O-ring-sealed lid.

Battery Support Design

As simple as it may look, the sheet metal battery support bridge protects the PCB while evenly distributing the weight of six AA batteries to the base of the housing — and ultimately to the customer’s tank. Without it, the concentrated weight at the center of the sensor could cause damage during transport, installation, or handling.

Component Integration & Assembly

The radar-focusing and absorbing elements at the bottom of the enclosure — including the PCB, a large plastic piece, a containment sleeve, and the enclosure itself — are designed to fit perfectly together, like a set of Russian dolls. The design also allows for easy manual assembly without the need for special tools.
The multi-purpose mounting adapter integrates all possible ways to mount the sensor to a customer’s tank, all within a single, straightforward piece of engineering.

Collaborative Process & Impact

CRE8 played a key role in the sensor’s design, contributing to nearly every element. It was the open and efficient communication—using visual examples, sketches, videos, and mock-ups—that allowed quick feedback, iteration, and ultimately, product refinement. This collaborative approach ensured that the final product met all the KFA goals with great success.
